Tonight I did my usual pre-work trip to the grocery store. The "that's what she said" guy was there and he gave me the biggest smile. I was hoping he would not recognize me because it was dark outside when I said what I said. And I had my bangs cut. Anything to not be recognized! Anyway, I got my fruit and skedaddled out of there.
Well, it is that time of the year. I have my Litebook on and ohhhhhh, it feels heavenly! This small gizmo is the size of a pocket book. It gives off a lot of light which gives me energy and helps to keep that damn Black Dog of Depression away in our dark Pacific Northwest winters. It actually feels good to sit with it on. Often I just keep in on past the minimum 15 - 20 minute recommendation because it gives you the same sense as a sunny day. Your brain does not know the difference. They are expensive ($189.00) but the difference they make is huge and I of course I need light therapy that is portable. They do have a 30-day money back guarantee so if it doesn't work you are not out of pocket.
Today I also started taking this product. I know I do not get enough fruits and vegetables in my diet at times so I thought I would give this a try. One serving has 6-7 servings of fruits and vegetables so it packs quite a lot in there. They taste is not too bad. It is not something I will linger over but down quickly.
So, since seeing my naturopath I am feeling better. Again, this is what I am doing. I am on a new fish oil so dosages have changed.
- Thyroid medication taken the same time everyday 30 minutes before a meal. (She said if I do nothing else, do this.)
- 2 Harmony Menopause 2 x daily
- 1 high quality fish oil (made from sardines) 2 x daily.
- 4000 iu of liquid Vitamin D.
- 1 tablet daily of Iron with meals. This also contains B6 and B12.
- 1 500 mg tablets of Vitamin C taken 2 x daily.
- The above mentioned Greens
Yes, I am feeling better. It feels like I have a ways to go but,
- I don't feel as foggy.
- Perimenopause symptoms are easing.
- Acne is not as bad. (Only two small spots this month.)
- Breasts are not as sore.
- As I mentioned, I have lost 8 pounds and I am not even trying to lose weight right now. All that is different is I am not craving junk food like I was.
- Not as many hot flashes.
- Don't feel as bloated.
- I feel like I have a little more energy but still have days that I just want to sit on the couch all day long.
- Hair and skin are smoother and softer. My face looks sort of younger.
- I would still like to see myself dealing with stress better but I do feel I am headed in the right direction. Dealing with stress is still one of my biggest challenges. (As if you all didn't know this! ha!)
I have to write this stuff down or I will forget. I also hope it encourages anyone out there that feels like shit everyday that there is hope.

Definitely
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy your break.

ReplyDeleteI've changed a great many things about my diet. I never touch caffeine, I take Vitamin D and Calcium tablets each day. Oh and cinnamon which is good for balancing sugar levels, and although I don't eat vegetables I do force myself to eat fruit each day. I eat low fat food, never eat butter etc etc. I've lost 10 poounds in the last few months and feel better too.
I'm glad you are starting to feel better, keep doing what you are doing.
ReplyDeleteI've cut a lot of junk out of my diet, but not really motivated at this point to do much else.
Sounds like you are being successful in your own search to heal your body and mind. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are feeling better!
ReplyDeleteOh, a 3 day mini-holiday "all to yourself" in a B & B sounds wonderful! Enjoy it and treat yourself to some new experiences while you're away -- new restaurants, sights, etc. Solitude and novelty can be sooooo relaxing!
ReplyDeleteAll good. All very, very good.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you're doing great. And that B & B getaway is a fantastic idea. A great way to relax and re-energize!
ReplyDeleteI've never stayed in a B&B by myself so I'm totally impressed that you are doing this! You will have to fill us in on your solo adventures!
ReplyDeleteYou should be able to claim the light on your medical coverage if you have a prescription for it. And if not through medical, you can claim it on your taxes as a medical expense. Seriously. It's cloudy here today and I'm happy about it because my forehead is SO creased from squinting in the sun, problems eh? Lol

I think it's a gutsy move to take some time in a B&B by yourself. I suspect it will be very good for your peace of mind. It sounds like you're moving in the right direction with these changes. Yay for you!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you are feeling better! Step by step. And thank you for the encouragement for everyone else.
ReplyDeleteI put sewing light bulbs ("natural light" bulbs) in our lamps and it has made a huge difference.
Hooray for the days when we feel better! I'm glad you get those days. Hope you have a most excellent holiday by yourself. I've done it before and it's really nice.
ReplyDeleteThat all sounds really positive and you lost weight too. I am starting this month too with a small change in my habits. I need to get myself on track again so may be following your example my dear. Have a great time on your get away. I really must do that too very soon before i take an axe to the bathroom door like Jack Nicholson in The Shining. x
ReplyDeleteYay. And have a wonderful weekend treat to yourself.
ReplyDeleteWoohoo for feeling better. Have a great time. I hope you come back rested and ready to take on the world.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy! I've found that Vit E helps with my hot flashes.
