A Confession

Here it is. My deep dark secret.  I know I will disappoint some of you.  Some will despise me and never read my blog again but I must tell you the truth. I hate Halloween.

I hate everything about it.  When my kids were small I dressed them up and took them out, hating it the entire time.  Now that they are older I still hate it.  Why?  Here are some of the reasons.

My brother and his friends saw to it that I would be traumatized every Halloween by scaring me all throughout October.  I would walk around in a perpetually terrified state knowing they were going to do something horrible. My adrenal glands were constantly on high alert. They told me every year that they were going to put Neet in my hair I also hate loud noises so I hated the screechers and fire crackers.  I hated going out into our rainy October nights.  Once I went through a haunted house where a man in a coffin jumped out at me.  I hated it because Ian J.  won the prize for best costume every year.  He dressed as the same robot every year.  Tin foil on a cardboard box.  Every year.  I hate that Halloween scares animals. So, I hate it.

Norbert is still sick.  The abscess I thought was drained is not so I am still manually draining it 4 times a day.  It hurts him and it is so gross.  He  is still wearing the cone of shame.  I have had to cut a whole bunch of fur off his back.  I am also using Tea Tree oil so all the fur around the abscess is all oily. Poor kitty.

I did end up going out the other night. I had a great time.  I did not drink anything other than OJ &7-Up and decaf coffee as I knew I would be driving.  I was home before 10:00.  I was not the only one looking forward to a hot bath and going to bed with a good book.

I am going back to work this week but just part-time.  I need the money or I would not be going back yet.

That is about it.  I was up at 5:00 as my fiancé was snoring and I had to take care of Norbert.  I know a nap will be in order sometime today.

PS- Please keep loving me even though I hate Halloween.  It is the only holiday I hate.

  3. Halloween is just about the only holiday I DON'T hate. Which makes us a matched set.
    Haha!
    It'll be over tomorrow.
Get some golden seal for Norbert! I promise it works.

  4. My daughter announced two weeks ago that she hates Halloween and can't wait til October is over. Halloween gives her nightmares and she's been sleeping in our bed every night. It's a hard life when you're afraid of monsters and creepy things. They are everywhere in October. So, I won't judge you for hating.

I loved it a lot more when I was young and single and could hit the party scene.

Give Norbert a snuggle for me. Poor, poor kitty.

Good luck at work this week. I hope it's not nearly as hard as you fear.

  5. I won't hate you or stop following your blog just because you hate Halloween. I didn't celebrate Halloween as a child because I can't remember anything about Halloween in Jamaica. But I go "with the flow" now and if I'm in a good mood or a Halloween mood I celebrate.

Baby steps: going back to work.

  6. That's fine with me, Birdie. I never knew Halloween when I was little, it didn't exist. I've never celebrated it in my life. And I'm not about to begin now.

If I'm missing something, I don't know what.

  7. I used to hate Halloween but now I sort of like it. At least I like the ingenuity that goes into costumes and decor.

  9. Silly Birdie.. you know nobody would drop you for hating Halloween. There's no importance placed on caring about a holiday or not. Faggedaboutit!

Just turn your lights off and go out for dinner or something. Make it a games night with friends. Have a good, stiff drink or rent and watch your favourite movie. Turn it into an evening with something like that to look forward to.

  10. We just had a group of four young teens side by side, with a zig-zag red line starting on one and continuing up and down until the last. The word CRASH made me think of the movie but they corrected me. They represented the stock market. I have now put the basket of candy outside the door. I'm done.

  11. To each his own! You certainly won't be judged for not getting into Halloween. I do like it, but I didn't have those traumatizing things happen either, so you do have reasons.
Glad you had a good time out.
Sorry that Norbert is still having troubles. May he heal very soon.
