Poor Norbert
My poor Ungrateful Bastard is really sick. He has a large puncture would on his spine that has abscessed. (It looks like he was attacked by another cat.) I have to drain it every four hours and clean it with peroxide and then a thick layer of Polysporin. I then put the cone of shame on him. Everyone who has ever owned a sick pet knows about the cone of shame. Since I have not worked since mid-April in order to care for my mom, I have no money to take him to the vet. I called this afternoon and it was going to be over $100.00 just for the vet to see him. If I had the money I would take him but I don't. Anyway, I am taking care of him myself. I am going to call a pharmacy in the morning and see if I can get him some antibiotics. Poor kitty.

I now that cone of shame. Poor kitty, but perhaps better the cone of shame that further sickness.
ReplyDeleteI think you are doing a good job. Maybe the vet will understand about your lack of funds. Mine, thank goodness, lets me pay what I can when I can.
ReplyDeleteKeep that kitty inside and he'll heal.
ReplyDeleteBig MiawKiss on you both.
Poor baby. I hope he's feeling tip-top before too long.
ReplyDeleteAh- male kitties and their fighting. I wish him speedy healing.
ReplyDeleteOuch. Poor Norbert. That must feel so hard, the not being able to afford treatment for him. We are lucky enough in the UK to have some provision through the PDSA and other charities but this is subject to people in receipt of certain benefits and in certain areas. Some ask for a small donation in return for treatment. Birdie I am sure with your knowledge and experience in nursing you will be able to care for him well however. Have you any colleagues or friends that can offer advice or treatment. I hope your baby feels better soon. I have a male cat also who is always coming in with injuries!!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you are doing a good job to care for your kitty!
ReplyDeleteMaybe knowing you can't afford to have him seen, the vet's office might be willing to give some advice over the phone, or even a little free medicine? Not sure if they do that, couldn't hurt to ask though. If not, hope you can get the antibiotics at a reasonable cost.
I hope he feels better real soon.
Oh gosh...I never had to put a cone on a kitty before but our Golden Annie had to wear one way too many times because of skin issues.
ReplyDeleteI sure wish there were (more?) vet clinics to help our pets in these times of need. Like the vets from "All Creatures Great and Small" that was on PBS many years ago. It was about helping the animals and not all about the money. These days I buy my vaccines and have my daughter who did vet tech. work, to give them or I have gone to the local pet store that does a vaccine clinic. Unfortunately they don't do anything else.
So sorry but hope you kitty is better real soon. It sounds like you are doing the right care and keeping it clean.
Oh, I am so sorry about Norbert. I hate it when my furry loves are sick or injured. It seems I am doctoring my little Herger every few months for some kind of wound. Sometimes I can take him to the vet and sometimes I just financially can't. We do the best we can. I sure hope you can obtain some antibiotics for him.
ReplyDeleteOh no!!!! I love Norbert!!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if you have a feed store or anything near you, but there is a product called Vetricin that you can get a bottle of for like four bucks and it will heal ANYTHING. Its in a pump spray like hairspray or whatever, and it works miracles. We use it on our horses and on us too!!!!!
It really sounds like your kitty needs antibiotics. And pharmacy's do not dispense those without a prescription. You may be able to find a VET who would treat your kitty for free. No one wants to see a kitty hurting.
ReplyDeleteHi Birdie .. I am sorry to hear the added anguish .. I sincerely hope Norbert will heal himself with whatever help you can give him .. love particularly .. all the best Hilary
