That sound seems to come from so many of us today. What are we supposed to be feeling?
How are we to feel about Bin Laden? I do not rejoice in his death. I am a pacifist and do not believe war is the answer. I will not return hate for hate, I won't. My kids are asking questions, good questions that challenge me. "But isn't it good that he is dead?" No, son this was not what God wanted for him. This is not what God wants for us. There is a better way. You have to live peace.
What encourages me is that every blog I have read today has the same idea. We all want peace. We ~sigh~ and we try to understand but maybe that is what immobilizes us. Have we given up on peace? Should we? I think not. Tomorrow when you go out in the world be kind and forgiving to one another. Look people in the eye. Love one another.
When I die I want five simple words printed on my headstone,
I plan to live this until my last breath. I will not allow the evil on this planet to dismay me! Do not let it dismay you! Be of good courage, dear ones. Be of good courage.
"Be Good To One Another"
So, I post this video.
"Nonviolence is a weapon of the strong"
It's funny -- for every similar sentiment expressed there have been those who cry "elitism" and "bullshit!" I'll be glad when it's tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteHey sweet Birdie... I thought of writing something similar on my blog but then I was warned by my husband not to... being a Muslim myself and a Arab it would create controversy... But all I wanted to say was the same as what you said… and while reading your blog I thought of Martin Luther King’s words and then found the same ones written below… I am a pacifist myself… I loathe war… and believe that everything can be negotiated… I believe that OBL was an evil entity in this dimension and he has harmed so many people of all faiths and nationalities around the world, even my own, but is rejoicing an answer?… besides such outward rejoicing might cause the rift between the East and the West to widen… anyway… ho hum… tomorrow is another day and I so hope that the two sides can start to make amends… I hope you are doing well and are strong… still thinking of you my lovely!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you. Rejoicing over the death of a fellow human makes us as evil as Bin Laden is perceived to have been.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant and thought-provoking post. xxx
He is only a symbol now... let's just hope that this won't bring more war.

This is the first post I have come across post bin Laden's death and I am very glad it is this one. One question I have been asking is how can killing a human being ever be a good thing? No matter who it is?
ReplyDeleteWhoever it is who kills must surely be in the wrong?
Like you I have no answers, only questions.
Your previous post broke my heart. There is no answer here either. Death comes for all of us and very rarely do we feel that the time is right. There's no point asking, why, why me, why this person. You could equally ask why not. All we can do is appreciate life while we have it and remain good, kind to ourselves and others and take what we are given if we cannot change it.
On a lighter note: I think that 'thing' is just the top of the staff. I've only just realised that I probably cut the picture rather unfortunately.
And the balls have a kind of zipper.
I am a pacifist. However I don't think one can completely ignore the need to stand up for oneself.

I enjoyed reading your post - I had 'what I thought was MLK' quote on my FB status - I had FB friends rejoicing and I couldn't bring myself to say anything to them so instead updated my status. Do you know whose quote it actually is?
