Well, work is over for another week. I am left feeling physically drained and exhausted. It is not a nice feeling. Empty. And sad. Not sure why I feel sad. Everything is overwhelming to me right now. Tears are often pricking the back of my eyes.

There are times of lightness. When I was driving home from work this morning I was listening to CBC Radio and they were playing a 'motet'. If you would like to know what a motet you can check You Tube. I won't link it because most people hate motets with all the hate that is within them. I however love them. Maybe I lived a previous life I spent a lot of time in cathedrals.

Actually, I changed my mind. This is a very famous motet from the movie The Tree of Life. The composer of this, Sir John Tavener died this month.

Anyway, I am tired and blue. It seems every thought I think I have thought before. I also feel like I no longer have a personality or a voice.

But such is life. I am sure this mood will pass.

  1. As a completely non religious person I like them - and find them soothing. Why? No idea, but I will take comfort anywhere I find it.

  2. Well, you do have a great voice that comes through in your blog. I know what it feels like to constantly ruminate on all my thoughts and feelings. At times I start to feel like a broken record. Sometimes we just have to take each moment as it comes and breath through it all. Hang in there. You have friends all around the blogosphere rooting for you.

  3. I'm feeling a bit sad and blue too, maybe it's the time of year. I think that music would probably depress me even more, and that's coming from a "religious" person. ;D

  5. That's a superbly calming piece of music. Personally I'm a sucker for Gregorian chant - same kind of idea but there's no instruments. I have a CD in the car for when traffic's especially heinous.

Sorry you're feeling down. Give that dog a kick for me and tell him to go away.

  6. It does not seem that a motet would be the best choice for helping sadness and/or depression.

This is a YouTube video my niece posted that really lifted my spirits.

  7. Of course the mood will pass and of course, that knowledge does not make it easier to bear.

  9. I guess it's my strict Catholic upbringing that makes me like motets.
Tell that black dog to scat! Sounds like he's visiting.

  10. Hopefully, you've had a good sleep and a little down time and the mood has passed. If not, cry a little and let it all out. Sometimes a good emotional purging is good for a person.
    Sending you a big (((HUG)))

  11. I don't really mind motets. They can be quite relaxing at times. Hey, yes, this too will pass. You're probably very exhausted, and that certainly contributes to this.

  12. Ooh...motet ... that's my new word of the week. How is it that I never knew what these were called? Calming and pretty, in a funereal way!

Get some rest, have a damn good blub and here's to a more restful week ahead.

  15. Thanks for sharing the music. I love Tavener's work, and have sung a few of his pieces in my musical life time. I listen to classical choral music huge gobs of hours every day - probably because I made a living singing it for so many years. If you want uptempo motets, try Bach, especially his first one, Singet dem Herrn... Sing to the Lord... it rocks!

I hope you get some rest and feel better.

  17. I love this sentence. A great line for a book. "It seems every thought I think I have thought before."
