We are back from Victoria and I am still not well. I guess I am going back to the doctor again this week. Victoria was lots of fun and we ate a lot! There was a bit of sadness though when we we walking back to our hotel from dinner. There was a young man on the streets who looked about the age of my son. We stopped and talked to him and he told us he was 17 and had run away from home in Ontario. He looked so tired but he didn't appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Just tired and hungry and alone. We bought him dinner. He hadn't eaten that day and was really hungry. But after we left him I felt worse. That could be my boy on the street. It is this sort of thing that makes me hate Canada. We have way too much poverty. Way too much.
We came across this little park that was hidden away. It had previously been a garden and when the lady who owned it died she left it to the city.
When we got home I was greeted with a package from
Morning AJ! It was full of all sorts of goodies!
She made me a cool handmade journal as well. I intend to use it to write down my favourite quotes.
Before I left I also received a card and this magnet from Elephant's Child. Some colour to add to the long dark days we are heading into in Canada.
I feel loved. Thank you to both of you!
Well, it is Monday and Mondays are clean the house days for me. Considering it is coming up 3:00 I guess I should go make myself productive.
I am surprised that there is poverty in Canada. The country is beautiful. I thought that they made tons of money from Tourism alone, you know Niagara Falls and I heard Ottawa is also a big attraction.
ReplyDeleteIt was nice of you guys to get dinner for the young man. God Bless:0
You spread Thanksgiving cheer to that young man. May he find his way.
ReplyDeleteThat was so sweet of you to get him dinner. That's my little brother's age.
ReplyDeleteI'm also surprised to hear that there is a lot of poverty there. Any is too much, of course, but how much is there, numbers-wise?
Thank you for feeding that young man. There is too much poverty here too, and every person who reaches out helps.
ReplyDeleteAnd I am thrilled that your magnet arrived.
Welcome back - love handmade journal. - nice of you to buy a meal for him.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving. That was really kind I am sure it will make a big difference to how that young man feels. It does make me feel so mad to think about the poverty in western countries and all safety nets for people being whipped away. Anyway....lovely gifts - what a nice surprise when you got home. Hope the doctor can work his/her magic for a full recovery for you. xx
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you liked your parcel. I only wish I could send you a package of good health to go with it. You are so kind, and you don't deserve to be unwell. Take care.
ReplyDeleteYou shouldn't feel worse after buying him dinner. You did more than 80% of the population would do and more than 99.999999999% of politicians would do.
ReplyDeleteThat was really kind that you fed that young man. I bet he'll remember you for a long time to come, and perhaps he'll pass that kindess onto someone else. I hope he finds his way 'home', wherever home may be.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a good Thanksgiving...I know cousins like your brother...hope it works out for them. Pretty park pic
ReplyDeleteThe boy in the streets will stay with me from this post.
ReplyDeleteHorrible that some of us have enough and others have little or nothing.
And that goes not just for Canada.
Your brother doesn’t sound very nice. I had a man like him once. Life was sheer misery with him.
Hope you feel better soon.
