Cough, cough, cough

source
Asthma is a little better today but not even close to 100%. Actually, I don't think I have been at 100%... ever. I grew up in the day when doctors told our mothers to smoke for their nerves. Not only did my mom smoke but so did my dad, all my grandparents, aunts and uncles. Then the cousins started. A child's delicate pink lungs did not stand a chance. My entire childhood I was sick with bronchitis. It was not until I turned 22 that I was actually diagnosed with asthma. It was my own fault I did not go to the doctor sooner and at the time the doctor was surprised that I had not been diagnosed years earlier. It never occurred to me that it was abnormal to turn purple when running. No wonder I never had a boyfriend. To me it was normal to be totally short of breath all the time. Things had improved for me after I was diagnosed but the best I ever blew with a peak flow meter was 80%.

4 hours later....

Well, I wrote that above post, re-heated leftovers and started to cough and cough. Ventolin was of no use. Back to the E.R. More Ventolin and Pulmicort. Chest x-rays and ECG. Both were fine. Sent home still coughing with two more days of prednisone. Today I went by my dad's house and picked up an air filter he no longer uses. It has mixed reviews on the internet. Everything from I hate it to it saved my life. Will have to see. I am keeping it my bedroom which I usually keep as dust free as possible. There is nothing I can do about their neighbours and their wood stoves.

So, I am home again, home again not so jiggity jig. I am going to get have a hot streamy bath and get my husband to wipe Vicks slowly all over my chest. Rawwwr!

  1. Having asthma must totally suck. I hope your lungs clear up and you start to feel better soon. The hot bath with your hubby and some Vicks sounds promising. ;)

  2. That hot steamy bath sounds like a much needed treat. It has to help something - your mood, your breathing or preferably both.

  3. Bummer!

Not good, I hope you find the air filter helpful.
I had child asthma but was cured in a sanatorium first at the seaside then in the mountains. All that cold clean air soon knocked me into shape. As an adult I suffered from recurring bouts of bronchitis. They have stopped too now, but I start coughing as soon as I am anywhere near cigarette smoke, even if the smoker is out of doors and not in close proximity. The mere smell starts me off.

    Good luck. Take care.

  6. First of all, HUGS- - - HUGE ONES.

How I wish I could get you some fluff. Asthma sufferers need FLUFF, something that makes you smile, giggle and feel like a kid ( a healthy kid), a stuffed animal or a fun shape jewelry or a T.Shirt with your favourite characters etc etc.

I had adult onset of Asthma and I know it sucks.

  9. My Mil had severe asthma AND smoked. She died of the COPD, obviously. There's nothing worse than. It being able to breathe.
Throw your pillows out and get new ones. And throw some pillow covers on them. I hope the purifier thing works!

  11. So sorry you're going through this! I have asthma, too, so I understand what you're dealing with. I have been pretty good lately, as long as I use the long-acting inhaler like I'm supposed to. :-) Hope you're better soon!
