Up a Few Points

Feeling slightly better today. Yesterday I slept in the afternoon for 3 hours. I don't know what comes first, the anxiety/depression or the tiredness. Oh well, I did sleep. Woke up thinking I could have kept on sleeping but I got up and did stuff.

Yesterday I was reading this book. You can get it through Amazon but if you are cheap thrifty like me you can get it here.  It is a different sort of book based on the experience of other women, women who are struggling but making it through. Throughout the book there are little notes from other women about how they are feeling. Some are funny, others sad or angry. But all truthful and heartfelt. This book helps me to feel normal. One of the notes I loved the most was a woman looking at a picture of her grandmother and she says, "what sticks in my mind is the slightly worried tilt of her eyebrows.  Sometimes when I pass a mirror I am stuck by the resemblance. I would never Botox my grandmother away."  I have to agree with this woman. I look in the mirror and see my mom and my grandmothers. Wrinkles, yes.  But I loved these woman with their wrinkles and I don't mind looking like them.  Now if I can just remember this the next time I look in a mirror!

Here are some pictures from our yard.

Does anyone know what this flowering shrub is called?

Well, I should go outside and do a bit  lot of weeding. Going for lunch/early dinner this afternoon and should try to go to do something productive today.

  1. I am so happy that you are feeling (a bit) better. Insomnia and her cousin depression LOVE to spend time together. And are both bitches.

Love your yard. And hear you on the weeding front. If I weeded every day for six hours I would still need to do more. A lot more.

  2. You're sounding much better. That's good.
They say gardening can actually ease depression. I find that I feel better when I stop.
    Big hug.

  3. Glad today is a bit brighter! I truly believe in that old saying that "A face without wrinkles is like a book without words."

  4. I'm so happy to hear that today was better for you. And some time in the garden is also an instant picker-upper!

The flowers in the last photo look like they're from a Weigela shrub.

  5. Hey...Martha beat me!
I was going to say Weigela as well!
    Good eye, Martha...
    Now...about you, Birdie...
Glad to hear you are feeling better...

  7. Glad you are feeling better. I find the garden somewhat therapeutic as well even though I hate weeding. I don't know - maybe it's just nurturing something that can't go anywhere -if you can manage to keep it alive and it rewards you with blooms then it's a win.

  8. Sorry I've not been here. I saw your post about being depressed and missed commenting at the time. Was coming back to give you some love and found that you were out in your lovely yard. Love the bottles. xx

I like the line, "I would never botox my grandmother away".
