Rice 4 x 3 = 12
I think I have been a good mom. I think I have raised them well and taught them how to be functional members of society. Evidently I failed in one area and that is how to cook rice. The picture you are looking at is a bowl of rice my 16-year old daughter made. When she asked how much she should make I said four cups. *sigh* Do you see where this is going? Instead of making four cups of cooked rice she made four cups of uncooked rice resulting in twelve cups rice. She placed it on the counter with a THUD that reverberated through the house. I have no idea how we skipped this lesson. Both my kids have been cooking meals since they were 12. How on earth did she get to be 16 and not know about dry rice/cooked rice conversion?

At least you know what to eat now for the rest of the month, lol.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you'll be having leftover rice or fried rice for a few days now. LOL! At least she can cook rice my daughter is afraid to cut an apple and always makes someone else do it. The only thing she cooks is grilled cheese sandwiches.
ReplyDeleteIt was family lore that my grandmother did the very same thing when she was a new bride.
ReplyDeleteThat is funny.
ReplyDeleteFred and Ricky funny.
ReplyDeleteThat's cute. Y'all will be eating rice for a while.
ReplyDeleteThere's rice conversion?
ReplyDeleteI only make minute rice. It will probably be the thing that kills me.
Rice pudding.
Har har har har har "...THUD that reverberated through the house..." That is just too funny.
ReplyDeleteWell, at least she cooks!
That is so cute. I did not know how to cook rice until after I got married.
ReplyDeleteI smell lazy cabbage rolls!
ReplyDeleteGround beef cooked...stir in rice....slice off cabbage leaves...tomato juice..
Layer it like lasagna....cover with foil....1 hour...350....
You're welcome!
Cheers!
Linda :o)
Innocent mistake. Next up, confusing regular chocolate with baking chocolate.
ReplyDeleteThis 47-year-old cooker of basic meals can't do rice. No way, no how. I wish somebody had taught me this lesson--or bought me a rice cooker!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like something from an eating contest!
ReplyDeleteoh boy... it sounds like I need a lesson as well and I have been cooking rice for some time... if my mom told me to cook 4 cups of rice I would have also assumed that four cups meant dry rice... oh dear... so what are the conversions like? 1 cup of uncooked rice is like 3 cups of cooked rice? I dunno... sigh
ReplyDeleteAt least she is learning early.
ReplyDeleteMy partner has (several times) done exactly the same thing.
Don't be too hard on her. I'm a bit older than that (think a decade or so of dried rice) and I have to look it up every time!
ReplyDeleteI foresee a LOT of stirfries in your future, LOL!
ReplyDeleteAh....this post makes me smile. :) I bet you can work some rice into a few more meals in the next few days!?!?!
ReplyDeleteThe trials and tribulations of the kitchen!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Love love, Andrew. Bye.
When my daughter was learning to drive I asked her if she wanted to drive us to Wal-Mart. She looked panicked and admitted that she didn't know how to get there. Get on the road and drive straight until you see the Wal-mart sign...it's amazing what they miss. At least you can freeze cooked rice.
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed that she cooked it at all! At 16, I would have looked at my mom blankly had she asked me to cook ANYTHING. Bowls of cereal were about all I could manage then.
ReplyDeleteNow that she’s had a practical lesson, she’ll never forget how to cook rice.
ReplyDeleteHa, that is funny. Well at least she tried. My mother had us cooking from the age of 9, and when we were in our teens, the rule was "you don't cook, you don't eat"... so yeah its good to learn.
ReplyDeletePS. Whipped Cream on a waffle is just as good as ice-cream. You're awesome by default ;)
LOL. Two cups is enough for the entire family for a whole meal... LOL. I think we should start with the basics-- that being one of them... then settle with the cooker.
ReplyDeleteI seldom cook rice, but since it's a staple food here, we pretty much have the idea even though we've barely cooked. Hahaha.
I thought that was pasta...
