Feeling Dauncy

The days seem to all blend together sometimes. Such has been the last few days. Not feeling 100%. In fact, I would say I am feeling dauncy.  Dauncy is from I Love Lucy. Lucy said dauncy was a word her grandmother made up when your not really sick but still feeling lousy. I am definitely feeling dauncy.

You know what I want to do? I want to dye my hair. Something bright, like pink or blue or purple. But I can't because my job requires some sort of professionalism. Going in to care for a person who is dying with bright pink hair isn't probably the best idea. I wonder if I can just do my bangs? Maybe. Or maybe I am too old.

I also want to get another tattoo. A crow this time. (I already have Snoopy and Woodstock.) Or maybe the infinity symbol.  Or not. No, I do. Most definitely. But again, working in palliative care precludes some things and pink hair and large tattoos is one of them. You may be thinking I am wrong but there is a certain respect that needs to be given to the dying.  Tattoos and pink hair frighten the older generation. meh I don't know. What do you think?

The last few days I have been postless.  Sitting down to the keyboard my mind is empty. What is there to say? I made chili, my daughter's laptop is broken now but thankfully under warranty, my head has been pounding with a headache for three days, I found an unbelievable deal on outdoor ceramic pots that were even in the colour I wanted and I found a keyboard on sale for our desktop computer. That is it. *sigh* Oh, I also put my oven on self-clean because I have not done it in 2 years.

It has been 5 1/2 weeks since my surgery and I am a little surprised to still not be feeling well. My incision sites hurts. Though improved, my plumbing is still not working 100%. When I discussed this with my gynecologist she said that it might not improve anymore that it is now. If you really want to know the details let me know and I will tell you. For now, I will spare you TMI.

I just read an obituary for a lady that died 2 weeks shy of her 100th birthday. If that was me I would be furious. She must have been so excited!  Like, "Holy shit I am going to make it to be 100 fucking years old!" But nooooo. God deads her instead. Life is truly a bitch.

  1. Could you not dye just a bit of your hair? There's a lady near us who has a sort of permanent red rose just over one ear. It looks great.

Well done on the pots. I'd love some new ones for my garden because the frost made hay with my old ones.

  2. I don't know - I think that I would like to see bright cheery colours (and faces) if I was dying. Is there someone you could ask?

And I do hope that you start to feel much, much better soon. Though dauncy is a WONDERFUL word.

  3. I love the word dauncy. Lucy was a riot!

I love bright, vibrant colours, so I don't think I would mind bright-coloured hair. But I can understand some of the elderly being a little freaked by it.

Maybe you can just dye part of your hair. My daughter did a few streaks of blue one year and it looked really nice.

  4. Dauncy is a great word.
"God deads her." Ha! Yes. That is cruel.

  5. Get a tattoo that your clothes will cover. That way only you and your husband will have the pleasure of seeing it. Oh, and your doctor of course.

  6. How about putting a peekaboo chunk in somewhere? Or maybe just buy the clip on extensions for some fun when you aren't at work?

My husband had open heart surgery over ten years ago and the incision still hurts. My incision is almost 2 years old now and itches occasionally.

  7. Sorry you're still feeling dauncy. Tis indeed a good word.

I have to agree with the bright colours not being a good idea if you're caring for the elderly. Another generation might just need to pass before it's a common enough sight and considered normal enough. I do think that bright coloured hair is for kids to experiment with but to each her own.

A large tattoo can be done on your back or over a shoulder which would presumably be covered at work anyway.

  8. I have read about dogs visiting the dying and musicians of all kinds playing for the patient. I would rather go out on a joyous note then a somber one. I think you should do what you want to do and I am sure your patients would be fascinated.-- barbara

  9. That's a nice crow. Maybe you could get a smaller one in a non-exposed area. As for the hair...aren't there ways to color it that aren't permanent? Our students sometimes do that for Halloween, and if they show up to school with it, they are sent home to wash it out.

  10. Yes not good to feel dauncy. lol.
I also agree that the elderly folks might just appreciate your colourful hair. But hey you are probably right and need to be a bit more reserved with it all. A tatoo is not so bad as you can cover it up. Still I think most old folks might quite like it really.

  12. Dauncy. I like it! I say I'm feeling 'snarky' but that is more like a bad or sarcastic mood, rather than just a not feeling 100%. Which I am not. More like, uh, hmm, 67%. LOL I don't know. It's raining today so my aches and pains are more prominent and I ate way too much so I feel extra sluggish. Bleh.

I don't see why you can't do something sassy with color, maybe like a purple streak. Underneath maybe. You know it's there, others might not. And who says that an older person wouldn't care for it. A hip older person would definitely get it.
Tats are okay these days too. And for fields where they are prohibited to be shown, there are assorted ways to cover them up or places to get them where no one but you can see. Sure, you should be as respectful as possible, especially to those who are dying, but some might actually find pink hair and tattoos curious and fun rather than something to fear.

Yeah, two weeks shy of 100 would suck. lol

  13. O well, who knows, perhaps she had been thinking a centenarian sounds old lol... This morning I am feeling a little dauncy too... some sort of indigestion/heartburn thing... I've been up since 4am (it's almost 10 now). I say go for the bright blue streak. And the tattoo. A crow saying "Never dauncy".

    You only live once...
Just ask that old doll, that died shy of 100...BUMMER!!!

    You make me laugh..

  15. If I should make it to 98 or 99 for some unknown reason, by golly I better make it to 100 or I'll give the big guy what for when I get to the gates...

I'm sorry you aren't feeling better yet... girl junk is the pits. You'd think our parts would stay where they're supposed to and all... guys have it easy... so they're balls hang to the knees. Doesn't really have to much impact on things other than aesthetics...

  17. I do hope that you feel better and I just learned a new word!
Making it to 100 may not be as important as having 99 years of fun, so I like to think that she enjoyed all of hers 99 years and was ok leaving us.

  19. I am concerned Barbara. if you undergo an operation, then shouldn't you expect things to run better? Was the operation necessary then? WHat is the solution?
