My Cats Have Fleas!

I have man-hands in this picture.

Trying to not be evil.
Oh, my god.  It is an infestation.  Both of my cats are crawling in fleas.  You know when you turn them over and you can see dozens of the vile creatures? It is so gross! Norbert (the Ungrateful Bastard) has never had a single flea before.  I would like to say he caught them on purpose but he has been so miserable.  Both cats have been scratching and biting at themselves endlessly.  Norbert, the poor baby even has open wounds on his belly from biting himself. So, today they got a flea bath.  I washed them first with Dawn detergent then rinsed,  then washed them again with more Dawn soap and lavender essential oil.  Lot of essential oil.  The fleas were falling off.  After they were bathed there were still fleas so I had to resort to an insecticide. I feel sick about it.  That shit is so toxic but what choice do I  have?  *sigh* I do want to say that even though Norbert hates baths, he tries very hard to be a good cat.  He only tried a couple feeble attempts at escape.  The rest of the time he just sat in the sink and waited for the torture to end. Right now both cats are sleeping on the couch.  Both exhausted from their bath.
At TOPS I lost 1 pound.  One lousy pound. Even though 1 pound a week is my goal I am annoyed.  Fucking celery.  How can you resent a vegetable?  I am not sure but I resent celery tonight.

Get yourself to the fridge and grab a pound of butter. That's how much you lost! Don't get discouraged, a pound down is better than a pound up!

Fleas are my worst nightmare. If Kamir gets them, well, it won't be pretty. He hates people as it is, I'd hate to see what he'd do to me if I bathed him.

  2. I am so with you on both counts. At the moment I look a little like the Goodyear Blimp. Sigh.
And Jazz inflicts pain and causes bleeding everyday without having fleas. If he ever needs a bath I plan on getting someone (anyone) else to do it.

  3. My poor Barney is allergic to fleas and h's scratched himself raw ery time he's had them. Sadly he's also allergic to many of the flea prevention treatments I can use.

We've been lucky this summer because the cold wet weather has kept them under control. I must treat him this weekend though, to prevent him from catching any.

  5. Our dog went through a period of resistant fleas. We finally gave him some kind of oral medicine, and that took care of the problem. As for celery -- big yawn. I feel your pain.

  6. Flea- hate em. Poor Norbert. But he is lucky he has you to take care of him.

Congrats on the pound. They add up! As for celery, splurge with a little cottage cheese and pretend it's a dip.

  8. Would flea collars help? Unleash your wrath on fleas, not celery!

  9. I dread the thought of our cats having fleas. The one is so nasty when she's being treated well. The other - well - she'd probably be sweet about it - water doesn't bother her so very much.

Try not to consider one pound in the right direction to be a disappointment at all. Be relieved!

  12. Aw come on, it's taken me six months to lose 9 lbs, don't feel so bad. The important thing is that you lost a pound. The only thing I lost this week was my mind.

I've been needing to give Squeaky Mimi a bath, (she's so fat she can't clean her backside), and have been putting it off. I will use the Ungrateful Bastard as a positive role model for her.

  16. New to your blog - well done on your 1lb - better off than on!

And yes, celery is a complete waste of space and energy - I mean, why even grow the stuff, it's foul!
