Is it just the time of the year or am I abnormally tired? In this part of the world it is dark early and today the clocks change and it will be dark even earlier. With working the night shift it means that I will be in darkness for at least 72 hours straight. bah It could however be my thyroid. Whatever it is I am mighty sleepy.
This week I finished reading Fifty Shades of Grey. (Spoiler alert and sexually explicit. Leave now if you don't want to read further.) Normally I don't read the trendy Top 10 books but a friend said I had to read it. What a shitty book. First of all it is very poorly written. Take out all the blushing, biting of her bottom lip, his flannel pants hanging on his hips and you could cut the book in half. The other half of the book Ava has multiple orgasms even when Christian says her name. Oh, and she is a virgin and she gives him a mind blowing b.j. on her first attempt. Ya, right. First off, having multiple orgasms is a learned art and so is giving a good b.j. The sex scenes (the reason everyone is reading the book) were not that good. Christian could take some lessons from my husband about how to send a woman wild. All I can say about my husband could have his doctorate! (I almost levitate.) All that aside, it is a typical story that a teenager would like. The whole bad guy/good girl and her love will save him. The entire book was crap!
Next topic...
My daughter is turning 15 and wants a rat for her birthday. ag! She has been wanting one for over a year now. First off we have 2 cats and second my daughter is on the lazy side and I know I am going to have to clean the cage. Has anyone ever had a pet rat?
Remember that I old you we were going to plant a pink Dogwood tree in memory of my mom? (I have not been able to write about this until now.) Well the tree was planted and when we got home the deer had totally destroyed it. All that left was a stick. They even ripped the bark off so it won't likely survive. I have never had a problem with deer. We plant extra in our garden on purpose to share with them but I am so angry and upset. There are a million trees around my neighbourhood and they had to ruin the one that meant something. They didn't even have the decency to eat it. They just ripped it apart.

We had a pet rat. Cage not hard to clean at all and he was fun to play with. The cats ignored him I think because he was so big.
ReplyDeleteTired-thyroid. I take replacement. But I also found out I'm anemic. Causes tired too. So does depression. So does stress. And some vitamin deficiencies.
I hope you feel better soon.
I've never had a rat, but my neighour's daughter has two and she adores them; says they are great pets. And a friend of mine had one for years and she said it was the most wonderful pet she'd ever had. Not sure how your cats would react to it, though, and how much stress it would cause the rat to have two predators nearby all the time. And if your daughter is on the lazy side and you just know you'll end up stuck doing all the work, well...
ReplyDeleteI would never have been able to let any of my kids have a rat, because I do not believe it is an animal that should live in domesticity.. They are not pets, highly intelligent though they are. So that would have been a nonono from me.plus the fact that they are not playthings and they have to be kept very clean in their cages, and so on and on..... The tree being destroyed is another matter... that I would have scorched the land with the words I would have used.... you will have to try and find a way of planting and keeping safe somehow... but the anger I feel on your behalf is heavy, so how you must have felt I cannot imagine!!!!!Hope that next week turns out better,., janzi
ReplyDeleteTired? It's winter. I'm tired too. And 40 ish and we both can't be having thyroid problems, right?
ReplyDeleteI will not read 50 Shades of Grey because I've heard the writing sucked. A friend told me "oh but the sex scenes will make you wild!" I said "if my man wants to make me wild, he can do the dishes. THAT'S a turn on!
Isn't it funny that your mom sent a deer to mess with your head? I wonder what she is trying to tell you?
Sorry to hear about your Mom's memorial tree. Hopefully the next one will not be enticing to deer.
ReplyDeleteToo bad you don't live in Alberta. Pet rats are illegal here because of the government's policy to keep this province rat free. Your daughter would have to settle for a hamster or something.
So sorry to hear about the tree... rude ass deer.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't make it through the 2nd chapter of that 50 Shades crap. The writing was absolutely awful. Awful... I love a good hot sexy story but it must be well written and somewhat realistic....
I have not read 50 shades and don't intend to...for me it is more of a turn off than turn on...I agree with heartinhand...do the darn dishes and we will see..ha! Think healthy..not skinny...
ReplyDeleteI have now wisdom and or advice on "rats" other than my son( at about the same age) wanted a rat and I said NO...I spend so much time reading about natural nutrition, holistic wellness , the universe etc ..that is all my eye sight can handle...As for the working nights and lack of sun light..As you may have realized from my blog ...I am a night person...hence sleep during day light hours...what I have found to be my magic drug per say is 2000 units of Vitamin D3!!! OMG! talk about turning your lights on in your brain etc...I actually was caught smiling after 1 week of use..and believe me I am not a smiling person...I could go on with testimony about Vitamin D3 but try it for your self ..~~HUGS~~
ReplyDeleteI haven't read it but I have heard the same - Mr. RK found a website that generates random passages from that book, and boy, that woman is a terrible writer!
ReplyDeleteSorry about your tree...
ReplyDeleteSomething that deer like??? or just
a bad coincidence...
No comment on the rest....
Cheers!
Linda :o)
I am so sorry about your tree. Maybe that deer is a spirit animal of some sort? Nix that -- I'm not sure I believe in spirit animals.
ReplyDeleteAs far as Fifty Shades -- I agree in every way. It's hard to believe it's made so much money.
I am so sorry to hear about your mama's tree. I would have both wept and cursed.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read 50 Shades, and am glad. None of my reading friends have had a kind word to say for it.
Thyroid? Bah. As someone who does have an underactive thyroid - get it checked. It has been six months I have known about the problem and we are still trying to get the dose of the medication right. Sigh.
Oh deer. Maybe your mom's all, eff this whole discriminatory mammary cancer awareness campaign! I want a WHITE dogwood tree.
ReplyDeleteMaybe not.
Pet rats are lovely - but PLEASE find out what's involved in keeping them before you buy any. For a start, they're social animals and should never be kept alone. And you need to interact with them regularly and often.
ReplyDeleteBack in the days when we had rats we used to spend up to four hours a day with them. If your daughter's the lazy sort rats are not the ideal pet.
Rats make fantastic pets. When my mother and I lived in apartments for awhile that was the only pet I could have. They are very clean animals and cleaning their cage is quite simple really.
ReplyDeleteThe only issue with pet rats are the fact that they don't live long enough.
Make sure if you do get her one, you only get a female. Male rats are notorious for leaving little 'markings' everywhere. In other words, they pee all over.
Females that are handled and loved and tamed never potty on you, but wait to go back to their corner of their cage.
I am glad I have no interest in reading those garbage books. I'm tired of these book series being released as these amazing things when in reality they are crap!
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear about your tree :( Try again, don't give up!
I've heard great things about rats. I had hamsters and loved them, but they were a lot of work.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you about 50 Shades. So many friends urged me to read it so I checked it out of the library (I had to wait for nearly 4 months). I forced myself to finish it just so I could say that I had.
I haven't read 50 shades as I dislike all of the hype about it and heard it was badly written. Plus I might blush. lol
ReplyDeleteRats. Not sure. Could be interesting though with your cats.
Sorry about the deer eating your Mum's tree How amazing to have deer coming into your garden though. Will you plant another?
Hope you are feeling less tired soon. Night shift must be a pain in the bum!
My sister tried to get me to read "Shades of Grey"; I have refused for the same reasons you mentioned it. And I'm sorry about your tree but; however I do have to say that when I read about it I just wondered if your mom had a sense of humor anything like yours. Because I get mine from my dad and I could totally see him coming back as a deer and pulling something like that just to mess with me. Maybe you should look at it like that; oh, and my mother had a pet rat when she was in college; she rescued it from a lab she worked at. She named it after my father. Yes...I had very interesting parents. :)
