My son is 16 and never asks for much. He is quite happy to buy his clothes at thrift stores. From the time he was small he has been an easygoing person. When I asked him what he wanted for Christmas this year he said a creeper hoodie. I had no idea what he was talking about so he sent me an e mail of this. When I found out the price I freaked. It is $70.00! I told him and in his usual gentle way he said he didn't need it. Let me say that I lived in poverty for years. We didn't have all the stuff that other families had like food. My kids have never worn clothes that were not second-hand unless it was a gift. We went to the movie once a year and I had to save up for that. This year I can afford the hoodie ($70.00!!) so I am going to get it for him. I can't wait for him to open it!

I understand but that is a lot of money for a hoodie. At least he is a patient soul for wearing second-hand. There is so much pressure on kids now and on adults to fit in. Or as I call it, to disappear. Maybe he is one of those wonderful folks who know they are OK no matter what.
ReplyDeleteThat is sure one scary looking hoodie -- I can understand a 16 year old wanting it. I bet he will love it!!!!

That looks like something my brother would wear. I'll bet there's nothing else out there quite like it. I'm glad you were able to get it for him. Plus you can factor in the savings from not having to buy scarves, hats or earmuffs this year. Although, if you can find some inexpensive reindeer antlers it would really add to the ensemble, but my fashion sense is questionable, at best.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful surprise that will be for him! I'm happy for both of you!
ReplyDeleteThat's so exciting -- gave me chills, actually! How wonderful for you to be able to give this to your son --
ReplyDeleteHe will be surprised....unless he reads your blog!!! Your a good mother!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting! I always loved those times I could get something my daughter ACTUALLY wanted LOL You'll have to be sure and take a picture when he opens it up!
ReplyDeleteI can relate to your post. I grew up in a poor family with 7 siblings.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that you will be able to get the gift for your son that he truly wants.
He sounds like a great kid! I can see why you'd want to surprise him with it. I'm sure he'll be thrilled!
ReplyDeleteMy kids never asked for anything either, so whenever we could, we'd make all their dreams come true at Christmas. It's the best feeling in the world to be able to give your child something they would only dream of.
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome.
ReplyDeleteI'd say that totally counts as a creeper. Either that, or he'll look like a giant green bean.
ReplyDeleteI find that deeply disturbing. I hope I don't encounter anyone wearing one round here. The sooner this fashion ends the better!
ReplyDeleteah! but is the creeper from mindcraft? my son would love it too! (but i won't buy it for my son. he's only 10 and getting other things...) i bet he'll love it. i think you'll love giving it more.
ReplyDeletepoverty brings riches even on the other side of affording things like this:)

That made me laugh so much. Your son is that age when they really make you smile(when they are not making you scream). It's great to be able to treat them. Exciting wrapping it up and then waiting for him to open it. It's the best thing about Christmas isn't it? x
ReplyDeleteI have mixed feelings about the creeper hoodie, but children go through phases. Once, all my son wanted to wear was black clothing. After a year or so, he started wearing different colors.
ReplyDeleteAwww that's so nice!!! I am happy for the both of you! :)
