Weeds

source
Does anyone else bother to source pictures?
More weed pulling today. Only today it was dandelions, not bluebells. The bucket was so heavy afterwards I needed two hands to lift it. That is a lot of dandelions. In our home we do not use any chemicals to kill weeds because we know the impact they have on the environment and we live across the street from a stream. Instead we pull dandelions with this tool. It works great and kind of fun. However it does not work on the bluebells because they have a bulb and not a root and are about 8 inches down. Anyway, the yard is dandelion free today but more will show up tomorrow because that is what dandelions do. Next week I am going to put a raised bed in our front yard out of scavenged bricks.

My daughter has been having problems with her heart. Irregular heartbeat, palpitations, missing beats. She had an ECG today and now we are waiting for a heart rate monitor. I am guessing it is caused by anxiety because well...I (the anxiety queen) am raising her.

My laptop fan is not working so I am cutting this post short. I have a small fan sitting by me to keep it cool and I am freezing!

  1. No poisons in our yard either. A lot of weeds - but no poisons.
And I will cross everything for your daughter and you. Hugs.

  2. Sorry to hear about your daughter. Hopefully everything is okay.
I source my pictures, just because I'm paranoid about litigation even though no blogger has ever gotten sued for such a thing.
I didn't know there was a tool for such a thing (I've been a homeowner less than a year) but now that I know, you may have changed my yard work life.

  3. Ah- we are both on the same train, pulling our weeds. For you dandelions and bluebells, for me, betony and kicking bamboo. And well, other things I don't know the name of.
May your daughter be well. And may all be well.

  4. Oh am I supposed to be pulling up the dandelions?

Hope all will be well with your daughter.

  5. Sending positive thoughts for your daughter...

That tool looks awesome! I, too, avoid chemicals but hate weeding by hand. What a nightmare. As for sourcing pictures: hahahahhaha! No.

  6. I won't let David use any pesticides on the plants because we live close to a river. I care what goes in our yard and I won't be one that contributes to the environments demise.

  7. My yard still has snow and poop all over it. Yay!
Anxiety is the hardest thing to work through. I wish you both peace.

  8. Sorry to hear that about your daughter. I hope everything goes well for her.

We have a similar tool for weeds, and we never use chemicals either. They're not permitted by law, but I wouldn't use them anyway.

  9. My boyfriend has a dandelion tool......oops.....that came out funny!
We are not allowed to use pesticides in Ontario....
The cottage gets oodles, as there are farmers all around....
    Keep plugging away!
    At least you have dandelions!
    Your daughter will be fine♥️
    Cheers!

  10. I hope your daughter's heart problems are nothing serious. We don't use chemicals on our yard either and strangely don't have many dandelions. We have clover growing in our grass though and as long as it's green and lush we leave it alone.

  11. That was a lot of hard work. I wish that a lot of people did what you do, this earth and water need to be free of chemicals. My husband thinks that you and your family will be blessed for such good hard work.

  16. Dear Birdie,

I wish I'd be able to get here sooner. I so hope your beloved daughter is better. Wishing you and your loved ones a most positive weekend.

    In kindness,

  17. Ha, finally caught up a bit on on your entries. Good to hear the tablets are kicking in better for you.

Though I do not envy all the back breaking work with dandelions, I am jealous you actually have any - my lawn is still a white-covered frozen wasteland and we still need to fight over who gets to do the post-winter poop patrol!!

Hope you daughter is OK - mine has had anxiety-based oesophageal spasms on and off this year - it's scary and you feel helpless. Hugs to all - and breathe! ;-)

  18. Hope your precious daughter is ok Birdie. Is she currently worrying about something? As for those weeds. Dandelions are so pretty when they turn to clocks and the yellow is such a gorgeous addition among the daffodils that are all around us at the moment. But I wouldn't want too many in the garden. I believe dandelion tea is a real treat. As for bluebells.....love them but again if there are too many I suppose it can be a problem. I think they might be protected here.
