So, so , so tired.  Sorry I have been a crappy blogger and have not been visiting your blogs.  There is so much to do with the renovations in our new home. Fell into bed last night then up early and went to work today. Came home and that is when the fun began.
I was attempting to hook up the washer and dryer and in the process broke a water line.  (Thankfully is was the cold line.)  As it sprayed in my face I tried plugging the hole with my finger and I can tell you right now that the story of the Little Dutch Boy is a load of shit. You can't hold back water with your finger.  I screamed at my man to turn off the water main which he did. By the time it got turned off 1/4 of the basement was flooded.  I was soaked.  To the hardware store to buy a new piece of whatever the hell it was that broke.  Went back home and tried to get the old piece off.  My man tried to do it but by this time STUBBORN BITCHY BIRDIE had made an entrance.  I was spitting nails. I WAS going to fix it myself come hell or high water! After about an hour I finally got the old piece off and cleaned up about 900 buckets of water.  Added the new piece and hooked it up.

I then go the brilliant idea to hook up the dryer while I was at it.  BAD IDEA.  I thought I could just take the hose from the previous owners and hook it up but they had been using an air vent, not a dryer vent. (It was made of plastic and had about 2 inches left in it for the air to flow through.  I had to take off the old vent and clean out 50 years of dryer lint.  I have no idea how they never had a fire!  I hooked up the new hose and vented it outside and clamped everything.  So now everything is hooked up.  It only took about 5 hours!  Anyway, I don't really need a bath because the shower I received earlier was sufficient but I think I will go soak in a hot tub anyway.
I stopped by and saw my mom. She is getting worse.  The last two days have not been good.  She is very weak.
A hot bath will help my aching muscles but wont do a thing for my aching heart.

  3. First I must say I'm sorry your mum is worse. This is a hard hard journey she is on.

On a lighter note, I had to laugh, only a blogger would take a picture of water pouring out into the basement!! So funny.

I wish we had basements, here in New Zealand we don't, I don't know why. It would be so handy, althoughwe would probably fill it with stuff!

  4. I once had a similar "Little Dutch Boy" moment when I tried to sort out the cistern for the toilet and the ballcock came off in my hand. Oops!

  5. Yes totally agree. No expectations for you to do anything on anyone's blog dear Birdie.

Made me laugh too when you mentioned the part about your man trying to fix it but how stubborn you had got by then. Recognise myself there! :) I will win thi... the inanimate object will not win!

    Hugs for your heart. x

  6. I remember when my Dad got so sick with cancer I thought the world should stop moving forward if he was sick. I just couldn't deal with regular stuff as well, knowing what was coming. I'm with you.

  9. Achhhh, the heart pain of losing a beloved parent. My father has been gone too long now, and some days my heart yearns just to talk to him again, to hear his laugh, to know he loves me, too. And then it passes - until the next time. This is a tough, tough road to go down, but God has given you a special man to hold you, to be with you, and that is a blessing. It won't take away the pain of losing her, but it will be a comfort if you let him do that for you.
I am thinking of you and if you cannot blog, it is OK... there will be time for that eventually... Now invest in memories to sustain you.

  10. Moving sounds so exciting up until you realize all the dumb things the previous owners did or did not do. Cleaning up their grime. Uughhg! Still knowing that it will now be your home with all the hard work you both put in makes it all the sweeter of memories to look back on and laugh about. You will! I promise!

Sending you a hug because I am thinking of your sorrow at seeing your mom decline...

  14. Dear Birdie, I'm sorry to hear about your mom's decline. I am hoping she has not pain.
It's very exciting that you finally have the keys and are making the house your (plural) own. All that hard work will be so rewarding one it's done. I'm so happy for you. Keep us updated with photos of the progress.

  15. When I got this VA foreclosure home in 1987 it was a wreck. It took me 12 hours to clean the roach crap out of the gawdy yellow fridge. People say why didn't you get a new one? Because it was the ONLY thing in the house that worked and I was poor. We had to gut and remove EVERYTHING else. There was a nest...yes a nest...in the girls room made out of Christmas wrapping paper that had been left behind that was about 15 inches in diameter and poopie on the floors. To this day I don't know what was living here and I don't want to know. Whoever said it's better to buy a crappy house in a good neighborhood was smoking happy weed.
